Are you ready to take your career to the next level?
According to the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), there is no specific academic training requirement for the CHST. However most applicants who prepare for the exam, seek appropriate formal training that includes any safety and health courses, conferences or internal company training, to name a few.
Before You Take the CHST Exam:
Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) candidates must be working part-time or full-time in construction safety (35% is the minimum) and have duties that require technical skills and knowledge in safety, health, and the environment and have three (3) years experience om construction safety, health, and environment.

- Your online ID and password is valid for one year from the date of your registration.
- In the event that you do not pass the exam on your first try, upon submission of proper documentation, your online access can be extended for an additional six months period.
Earn 3.0 CEUs While Preparing for the Exam
In order to earn the designated number of CEUs and your certificate from the Institute of Safety & Systems Management, you must do all of the following:
- Spend a minimum of 30 hours of self-paced study for each Continuing Education Unit awarded.
- Score 60% or higher on at least one comprehensive test of your course which covers all domains. Although no two comprehensive tests are the same, you can take as many comprehensive tests as you wish. However, you must score 60% or higher on at least one comprehensive test. Our system will track your scores and will notify you via email when you have scored 60% or higher on at least one comprehensive test.

About Your Instructor
H. R. Kavianian Ph.D., CSP, CHMM, STSC is emeritus professor of Chemical Engineering at California State University, Long Beach and has also served as an adjunct professor of safety at the University of Southern California. Dr. Kavianian has served as the instructor for ASP and CSP examination preparation courses for the following organizations:
- American Society of Safety Professionals
- National Safety Council
- General Motors Corporation
- University of Southern California
- California State University Long Beach
- Orange County Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals
Dr. Kavianian was a former member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Operational Readiness Review Team for Occupational Safety and Environmental Requirements, and has served as the Chair of the Process Safety Technical Group of the American Society of Safety Professionals. In addition to safety, environmental, and chemical engineering research and development for Fortune 100 companies, and Argonne National Laboratory, Dr. Kavianian was in charge of the Defense Logistics Agency’s Occupational Safety & Environmental training programs for the Department of Defense personnel in the U.S., Europe, Korea, and Japan.
